World Bank forecasts Mainland economy will grow 6.5pct this year

China’s economy will grow by 6.5 percent this year according to the World Bank in its Global Economic Prospects report.

“China is projected to continue an orderly growth slowdown to a 6.5 percent rate,” the bank said at the release of the report on Wednesday.

“Macroeconomic policies are expected to support domestic drivers of growth despite soft external demand, weak private investment, and overcapacity in some sectors.”

The World Bank forecasts 0.5 percent growth in Brazil’s gross domestic product (GDP) this year, Angola’s GDP will be 1.2 percent, 5.5 percent in East Timor, 5.2 percent growth for Mozambique, 5.1 percent in Guinea-Bissau and 3.3 percent GDP growth for Cape Verde.

There was no forecast for Portugal.

The World Bank expects global economic growth to “accelerate moderately to 2.7 percent in 2017”.
