Brazilian industrial production falls 0.3 pct in August

The value of the output of Brazilian industry in August was 0.3 percent lower than the month before but 2 percent higher than a year earlier, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency, citing figures given by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, says industrial output has now been lower than the month before for two months in a row.

The report says the value of industrial output so far this year was 2.5 percent higher than in the corresponding period last year, and that the value in the 12 months ended August 31 was 3.1 percent higher than in the preceding 12 months.

Of the 26 industries covered by the figures, 14 produced less in August, including oil by-products and biofuels, which produced 5.7 percent less, Xinhua says.
