Envoy says Chinese levy on Brazilian farm exports negotiable

Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Li Jinzhang has said his government is willing to discuss reducing or eliminating the surcharge it levies on some farm products China imports from Brazil, The Rio Times reports.

The newspaper quotes Mr Li as saying Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Michel Temer discussed the surcharge when they met on the sidelines of the summit meeting of the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) bloc, held in South Africa last week.

The report says the surcharge is levied on Brazilian soybeans, poultry and sugar imported by China.

The Rio Times also quotes Mr Li as saying China is willing to import more soybean products from Brazil.
