Cabo Verde opens police facility that Huawei helped set up

A police command and control centre in Cabo Verde, part of a project to make the country safer which Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd of China is contributing to, has been opened, the Chinese Embassy in Praia has announced.

The embassy issued a written statement quoting Cabo Verde Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva as saying the project is a result of a meeting he had with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Macao in October 2016.

The statement says the first phase of the project includes the installation of a surveillance system, a communication system, and a command and control centre to allow the police to deal with emergencies.

The second phase will expand the coverage of the facilities to other parts of the Cabo Verde archipelago, the Chinese Embassy in Praia says.
