Portuguese ex-minister becomes Chinese university researcher

A former deputy prime minister of Portugal, Paulo Portas, has been appointed a senior researcher for the Renmin University of China Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, the People’s Daily reports.

The Chinese Communist Party newspaper says Mr Portas gave a talk at the university yesterday, on the subject of present and future economic conditions in Europe.

Mr Portas said China and Portugal could co-operate more in Africa and Latin America, continents that Portugal is deeply knowledgeable about.

About 100 people attended the talk, including Portuguese Ambassador to China José Augusto Duarte, the People’s Daily says.
