H1 Chinese imports of Brazilian pork jump to 69,800 tonnes

Brazilian Animal Protein Association figures show that Brazil exported 69,800 tonnes of pork to China in the first half of this year, 170 percent more than a year earlier, O Globo reports.

The Brazilian newspaper says 79,300 tonnes was exported to Hong Kong alone, 12 percent more than a year earlier.

The report quotes the association as saying exports to China grew despite a strike in May by Brazilian truck drivers, who held up deliveries by blocking highways.

O Globo quotes the head of the meat association, Francisco Turra, as saying of the strike: “We expect the effect to diminish gradually in the months to come, particularly from July onward.”
