Chinese economic growth races along at 6.7 pct in Q2

Official data indicate that the annual rate of growth in gross domestic product in China was 6.7 percent in the second quarter of this year, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency, citing data compiled by the National Bureau of Statistics, says the second quarter was the 12th quarter in a row of annual growth in the range of 6.7 percent to 6.9 percent.

The report quotes National Bureau of Statistics Spokesman Mao Shengyong as saying the performance of the economy in the first half of this year was a good start to the pursuit of higher-quality development. The annual rate of growth in GDP in the first half was 6.8 percent.

The government target for growth this year is 6.5 percent or so, Xinhua says.
