China UnionPay bank cards now accepted in Angola

A joint arrangement by the African arm of China UnionPay and Angolan interbank network operator Empresa Interbancária de Serviços SA now allows holders of UnionPay bank cards to use them in Angola, Angop reports.

The Angolan news agency quotes UnionPay International Africa General Manager Zhang Luping as saying the arrangement will make life a lot easier for Chinese living in Angola.

Mr Zhang said each Chinese in Angola held between one and four UnionPay cards.

The head of the Angolan interbank network operator, José Gualberto de Matos, thinks the use of UnionPay cards in Angola will improve the business environment there by increasing the amount of foreign currency available, so curbing the parallel currency exchange market, Angop says.
