Chinese vessel supplies fish to Guinea-Bissau

A Chinese trawler has been supplying fish to Guinea-Bissau since last Friday, Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

It is the result of a partnership between China and Guinea-Bissau aimed at improving the supply in the African nation of fish available at cheap prices, said Fernando Correia Landim, Fisheries Minister of Guinea-Bissau.

“The Chinese vessel will henceforth supply fish to the internal market so that every citizen can access fish products at an affordable price,” he was quoted as saying. The price of a kilogram of fish has been reduced from 650 CFA Francs (US$1.10) to 500 CFA Francs, the report said.

The Chinese ship concerned supplied 142 tonnes of fish to Guinea-Bissau last week.
