Huawei the best-selling smartphone brand in Portugal in Q1

Sales of smartphones made by Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd of China were the highest of any brand in Portugal in the first quarter this year, Sapo reports.

The Portuguese news website, citing data compiled by market intelligence firm IDC, says Huawei sold 152,000 smartphones in Portugal in the first quarter, 27 percent more than a year earlier.

The nearest rival of Huawei was Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd of South Korea, which sold 147,000 smartphones, 18 per cent fewer than a year earlier.

Being nearer the consumer played an important part in making Huawei the market leader in Portugal, Sapo quotes the company as saying.

A Chinese-language newspaper published in Portugal, Pu Hua Bao, reported in April that Huawei opened two shops in Portugal last year, in Lisbon and the northern city of Oporto.
