Brazilian chicken sales to China trend upward so far in 2018

A Brazilian meat industry association says Brazil exported 179,900 tonnes of chicken to China in the first five months of this year, 12 percent more than in the corresponding period last year, O Globo reports.

The Brazilian newspaper quotes the association as saying the growth in sales to China in the first five months contrasts with the contraction in chicken exports in general, which declined by 8.5 per cent to 1.6 million tonnes.

The report says chicken exports in general contracted mainly because sales to the European Union declined by 40 percent because of EU restrictions imposed in April.

A strike by Brazilian truck drivers may further curb exports this month, O Globo quotes the head of the association, Francisco Turra, as saying.
