Opening of Chinese market to Brazilian rice up for discussion

The Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency has announced that a committee of a Sino-Brazilian joint commission will meet this year to discuss opening the Chinese market to Brazilian exports of rice.

The agency issued a written statement saying representatives of the Brazilian government and rice producers and Chinese Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan discussed the matter in a meeting in Shanghai this month.

The statement quotes Brazilian Rice Industry Association Executive Director Andressa Silva as saying she is very confident about the outcome of the committee meeting.

The committee will also discuss Chinese requirements for imports of fruit and meat, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency says.
