Angola, Mozambique to mull use of Chinese currency

Angola and Mozambique are among 14 countries in eastern or southern Africa set to consider treating the Chinese yuan as a reserve currency, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency quotes a written statement issued by the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa as saying senior officials of central banks, governments and the African Development Bank will meet in Zimbabwe to discuss the possibility.

Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe all belong to the institute.
