Disease all-clear raises minister’s hopes for Brazilian beef exports

Brazilian Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi has expressed hope that Brazil can sell more beef to China now the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has declared the whole country clear of foot-and-mouth disease through vaccination, Reuters reports.

The news agency quotes Mr Maggi as saying in Paris, where he was attending the OIE general assembly, that China and Japan have great potential for growth as markets for Brazilian beef, in view of the declaration.

The OIE previously considered most of Brazil to be clear of foot-and-mouth through vaccination, and has now the declared the whole country free of the disease, Reuters says.
