State Power Investment Corp. (SPIC) of China is looking for further opportunities to invest in electricity generation in Brazil, Reuters reports.
The news agency says SPIC bought the right to operate the São Simão hydroelectric power station in Brazil for 7.2 billion reals (US$2 billion) in September.
The report quotes the SPIC chief in Brazil, Adriana Waltrick, as saying: “Brazil is one of the top regional priorities for the group’s expansion.”
Ms Waltrick said SPIC may buy companies or bid for licences to build new generating capacity, and that it has plans to build wind farms together capable of generating about 280 megawatts.
