The University of Macau says it will put on this week an international conference on teaching Portuguese as a foreign language.

The university issued a written statement saying the “Confluences in Portuguese: Linguistics, Literature and Translation” conference, organised by its Department of Portuguese, will take place from May 10 to May 12.

The university says 40 academics or other authorities on the subject will attend. They will come from Brazil, Mainland China, France, Italy, Japan, Macao, Mozambique, Portugal and other parts of the world.

Among the topics they will discuss are materials and strategies for teaching and learning Portuguese as a foreign language, and phonetics and phonology in teaching Portuguese as a foreign language, the University of Macau says.
