Large attendance at opening of Sino-Portuguese film festival

Nearly 300 people attended last week’s opening in Lisbon of the Portugal-China Film Festival, which marks 40 years since Portugal and the People’s Republic of China established diplomatic relations, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says state-owned China Film Group Corp. arranged the festival with the help of the Chinese Embassy in Lisbon.

The report says those attending the opening included representatives of the government, the film industry and the Chinese community in Portugal.

A similar festival last year was among the results of Sino-Portuguese engagement in the field of cinema in recent years, the report quotes a counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Portugal, Xu Zhida, as saying.

The festival this year is an opportunity for Portuguese to learn about Chinese culture and how modern Chinese live, Xinhua quotes Mr Xu as saying.
