Chinese investment in Brazil in 2017 highest for 7 years

Official data indicate that Chinese investment in Brazil amounted to US$24.7 billion last year, the most for seven years, Bloomberg reports.

The news agency, citing figures given by the Brazilian Ministry of Planning, Development and Management, says the value of Chinese investment in Brazil between 2003 and 2018 so far is US$54.1 billion.

The report says 46 percent of the sum was invested in power generation, 30 percent in oil and gas, and 8 percent in mining.

Bloomberg quotes Brazil-China Business Council President Luiz Augusto de Castro Neves as saying: “Chinese investment can be fundamental to accelerate Brazil’s economic recovery.”
