Call for more Sino-Mozambican cooperation in farming tech

Chinese Vice-minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Zhang Taolin has said China and Mozambique should cooperate more closely in the field of agricultural technology, AIM reports.

The Mozambican news agency quotes Mr Zhang as saying during a visit to Mozambique that Sino-Mozambican cooperative research should concentrate on cashew nuts and fruit as well as new varieties of rice.

The report quotes Mozambican Vice-minister of Agriculture and Food Security Luísa Meque as saying Chinese experts would give 100 Mozambican agricultural technicians short training courses in Mozambique, and train another 30 in China.

China paid for the construction in Maputo of the Agricultural Technology Research and Transfer Centre, which focuses on irrigation and on agricultural and pastoral productivity, AIM says.
