China to consider ‘twin city’ ties with communities in Angola’s Cabinda region

China and the Angolan region of Cabinda could co-operate further, including by communities in the two places establishing ‘twin city’ links, said the Chinese Ambassador to Angola, Cui Aimin.

The diplomat was speaking during a 24-hour visit to the Cabinda region, in the north of the African nation. He said – as quoted by Angolan newspaper Jornal de Angola – he would work to make possible the establishment of twinning between communities in China and the Cabinda region.

“I am fully confidant that co-operation between Angola and China – and, in this case, with Cabinda province – would be successful, benefiting the promotion of our future relations,” Mr Cui said.

The diplomat also mentioned he was impressed with the Cabinda region. He noted it had potential as a supplier of natural resources, and that this should be developed through investment projects. The latter could help the Angolan government in its efforts to diversify the nation’s economy, he added, according to the news report.

During his trip to the Cabinda region, the Chinese Ambassador visited some construction sites that had Chinese citizens on the workforce.

He also stated China would continue to co-operate with Angola despite the global financial crisis.
