Plan by China for Cabo Verde economic zone due in September

Cabo Verde Deputy Secretary of State for the Maritime Economy Paulo Veiga says the Chinese-sponsored plan for the establishment of the São Vicente Special Maritime Economic Zone in his country will be completed and published in September, Expresso das Ilhas reports.

The Cabo Verde newspaper quotes Mr Veiga as saying in an interview that the planners, led by Chinese, visited the island of São Vicente this year, accompanied by the recently-appointed co-ordinator of the zone, José Manuel Correia.

The report says the final draft of the plan will be sent to Prime-Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva for his approval before it is put into action.

The Sino-Cabo Verde agreement to establish the São Vicente Special Maritime Economy Zone was signed in Macao in October 2016, Expresso das Ilhas says.
