President Xi says Chinese economy to open wider to outsiders

Chinese President Xi Jinping has said his government will take measures this year to widen access to the Chinese economy for the world outside, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency quotes Mr Xi as saying at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia, held on the southern Chinese island of Hainan, that the government will accelerate the opening-up of the insurance industry, ease restrictions on the establishment of financial institutions by foreigners, allow such institutions to widen the scope of the business they do, and permit co-operation by Chinese and foreign financial markets in more areas.

Mr Xi said the government would relax as soon as possible limits on foreign investment in the automotive, shipbuilding and aircraft industries.

The government will reduce tariffs on imports of motor vehicles, Xinhua quotes Mr Xi as saying.
