China in talks about resuming cotton, rice-growing in Angolan province

Angolan Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Alberto Jaime has said representatives of Angola, China and Japan are discussing how to finance the resumption of cotton and rice production in the northern Angolan province of Malanje, Angop reports.

The Angolan state-run news agency quotes Mr Jaime as saying 10,000 hectares around the Capanda Agro-Industrial Hub in Malanje is reserved for growing cotton.

He said the Angolan economic crisis had deeply disrupted Malanje and its agricultural output.

The farming industry intends to enlist the help of peasant households in returning the cotton and rice output of the province to its previous levels, Angop quotes Mr Jaime as saying.
