Mozambican economy grows 3.7 pct in 2017

The economy of Mozambique expanded by 3.7 percent last year, Notícias reports.

The Mozambican newspaper, citing data collected by the Mozambican National Statistics Institute, says the expansion was due to mainly to growth in the primary sector in general, which expanded by 9 percent, and to growth in mining in particular, which expanded by 32.4 percent.

Agriculture, animal husbandry, hunting, forestry and fisheries combined were the largest single contributor to Mozambican gross domestic product, accounting for 22.5 percent, while transport, storage, information and communications combined were the second-biggest, accounting for 12.2 percent, Notícias quotes the institute as saying.
