Portuguese brewer has frothy sales in China in 2017

Sales in China of Sagres, the main brand of beer made by Portuguese brewer Sociedade Central de Cervejas e Bebidas (SCC), grew by over 50 percent last year, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes SCC Institutional Relations and Communication Director Nuno Pinto Magalhães as saying China is now the second-biggest export market for his company.

Mr Magalhães said the main market in China for Sagres was the province of Fujian, but that the number of outlets for the beer was growing in the provinces of Zhejiang and Guangdong.

The report says China is the biggest export market for another Portuguese brewer, Super Bock Group, accounting for 40 percent of its sales outside Portugal,

The value of Super Bock Group sales in China in 2016 was €451 million (US$526 million), or 12 percent of company revenue, Lusa says.
