Portugal waiting for Chinese investment in various fields: Ambassador

There is a number of fields in Portugal waiting to be explored by Chinese companies for establishing co-operation ties and identifying business opportunities, China’s Ambassador to the European country, Cai Run, has said.

The diplomat was speaking to a delegation from the Pan-Pearl River Delta region. The delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Portugal as part of a visit to the European nation organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM, in the Portuguese acronym).

Mr Cai Run said the Portuguese Government was waiting for the participation of Chinese companies in fields including energy, finance, insurance, medicine, maritime business, agriculture and infrastructure, according to a press release by IPIM. The Ambassador was also quoted as saying Portugal was “a land of wonders with an excellent geographic location”.

He also noted that Chinese companies that go to Portugal to explore business opportunities in the European nation should pay attention to local needs and benefit from local advantages.

The delegation organised by IPIM included 35 representatives from nine southern provinces of Mainland China, from Hong Kong and from Macao. The visit to Europe took place from June 16 to 24 and also included Belgium.
