Mozambique produced a total of 100,000 tonnes of cashew in the 2015-16 harvesting season: a new record, said Ilídio Bande, National Director of the country’s National Institute of Cashew Production (Incaju).
The National Director noted cashew production volume in the previous season amounted to 80,000 tonnes, reported local newspaper Notícias.
Mr Bande added that cashew sales in the 2015-16 harvesting season amounted to about US$23.1 million.
He added that the next target for Mozambique’s cashew producers was to increase annual total production to 120,000 tonnes. Mr Bande said this goal could be achieved over the next few years.
Most of Mozambique’s cashew production is based in the provinces of Nampula, Zambezia, Manica, Inhambane and Gaza.
