Macau entrepreneur, Brazilian municipality sign MOU on US$10-mln trade

A Macau businessman, Deng Haiqiang, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Brazil’s Curvelo Municipal Government on business worth US$10 million, the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) said on Tuesday.

The MOU, negotiated with IPIM’s assistance, extends existing co-operation on the import and export of goods including food produce, electronic appliances, furniture and ceramics, the institute explained.

Mr Deng is visiting Brazil as part of a business delegation led by IPIM. The memorandum was signed at the “Exchange Meeting Between São Paulo and Macau Business People”, held this week in the South American nation. The session was co-organised by IPIM and the São Paulo Trade Association.

According to a press release by the institute, Mr Deng had already signed a co-operation agreement with the Brazilian municipality in 2012. That US$4-million deal was related to the mining industry.

IPIM quoted Mr Deng as saying he believed the Macau platform not only helps the economic and trade development of both sides, but also helps Macau companies “going out” from China to find new business opportunities.

Trade between Macau and Brazil was worth the equivalent of US$40 million in 2015, according to IPIM.
