Macao tertiary education grants promote bilingualism

Macao’s Tertiary Education Services Office (GAES, in the Portuguese acronym) has launched a subsidy scheme to encourage local higher education institutions to promote the training of individuals bilingual in Portuguese and Chinese.

The initiative is known as the “Specialised Subsidy Scheme for Training of Bilingual Talents of Chinese and Portuguese Languages and Cooperation of Education and Research for Macao Higher Education Institutions”.

According to GAES, its purpose is “transforming Macao into a centre of Portuguese language training for the Asia-Pacific region”.

The scheme also aims to promote co-operation between higher education institutions from Macau, Mainland China, other places in the Asia-Pacific region and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

Activities that can qualify for subsidies under the scheme include: training; exchange programmes; research; forums or conferences; creation of teaching material; and publication of academic studies.

The application period for the scheme runs from April 1 to 30. Projects must be implemented between May 1 and December 31 this year.
