China funds renovation of Cape Verde parliament

The National Assembly Palace, located in Cape Verde’s capital, Praia, will be renovated starting in May. The project is being funded by China, as part of the existing co-operation between the two countries, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported.

The work is scheduled to last 21 months, during which time a “qualitative intervention” will be applied to the building, said last week Libéria Brito, secretary-general of the Cape Verde parliament, as quoted by Lusa.

Representatives from China’s Embassy to Cape Verde and from Cape Verde’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its National Assembly, signed last week an agreement for the renovation.

During the work, parliamentary sessions will be transferred to the National Library, also located in Praia.

The National Assembly Palace was inaugurated in 1985, with funding from China. It will be the first time since then that renovations will have been carried out.
