Angola is China’s second largest market in terms of development projects and its third largest trade partner in Africa – with contracts for bilateral projects amounting to US$56.7 billion so far – said China’s Ambassador to Angola, Cui Aimin, as reported on Sunday by Angolan newspaper Jornal de Angola.
Mr Cui Aimin was speaking at a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the Angola-China Chamber of Commerce. He said its members were parties to 90 percent of the contracts negotiated between the two countries.
“During these ten years, China has become Angola’s largest trade partner,” the Ambassador said, as quoted by the media outlet. He added future bilateral co-operation would focus on helping Angola to develop further its agriculture, industry and infrastructure sectors.
The Vice-Governor of Luanda, José Cerqueira, said he hoped the work performed by Chinese companies in Angola would result in an increase in the number of jobs for locals, and in an improvement of the living conditions of the communities in which those firms are based.
The President of the Angola-China Chamber of Commerce, Liu Guigen, said — also quoted by the newspaper — that its 65 members are companies and organisations working in areas central to the development of the African nation, including the building of airports and roads, as well as the development of agriculture.
