Chinese builder to start work on Mozambican airport terminal

A Chinese company will begin this week building a passenger and cargo terminal for Chongoene airport in the southern Mozambican province of Gaza, along with a 2 km access road, Jornal Notícias reports.

The Mozambican newspaper says the contractor is preparing the site and stockpiling materials.

The airport will make the province easier for tourists to reach, Jornal Notícias quotes Gaza Governor Stella Pinto Zeca as saying during a visit to the site.

The newspaper reported in September that China Aviation International Construction and Investment Co. Ltd will build the airport for US$75.1 million.

In October Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi attended the ceremonial breaking of ground at the site.
