Mozambican Public Works Minister João Machatine has said Chinese specialists will arrive in his country within days to begin repairing the bridge over the Save River, Rádio Moçambique reports.
The state-run radio station quotes Mr Machatine as saying when he visited the work site on Friday that 60 percent of the materials needed to repair the bridge was already there.
The report says that while the repair work is in progress, a temporary bridge, to be opened in November, will carry road traffic over the river. The construction of the ramps for the crossing is underway.
The permanent bridge opened in 1972, and usually 240 to 300 vehicles, most of them heavily laden, cross it every day, Rádio Moçambique says.
