Chinese envoy, incoming Brazilian officials meet for talks

Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Yang Wanming has held separate talks with Brazilian Vice-president-elect Hamilton Mourão and incoming Brazilian Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo about strengthening Sino-Brazilian ties, the Chinese Embassy in Brasilia says.

The embassy issued a written statement quoting Mr Yang as saying during the meetings that the Sino-Brazilian relationship had matured, and was stable, healthy and dynamic.

He expressed hope that the all-embracing Sino-Brazilian partnership will become a model for partnerships between big developing countries.

The statement quotes Mr Mourão as saying China is an important partner of Brazil, and that his government is willing to work to make the relationship even better.

Mr Araújo hopes to help China and Brazil co-operate in new ways and increase exchanges between their peoples, the Chinese Embassy in Brasilia quotes the incoming minister as saying.

The government of Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro will take office tomorrow.
