Tourism promoters press for new China-Portugal air service

The Portuguese tourism promotion agency, Turismo de Portugal, has got together with airlines and tour operators to consider how to replace the direct air service between Portugal and China, which will be suspended starting October, Jornal Económico reports.

The Portuguese newspaper says Beijing Capital Airlines of China suspended direct flights between Beijing and Lisbon for what the airline described as “operational reasons”.

The report quotes a spokesman for Turismo de Portugal as saying tapping the fast-growing Chinese market is among the most important tasks his agency has.

The agency will follow up efforts by tour operators and airlines to keep China and Portugal connected by air in one way or another, Jornal Económico says.
