Portugal wants Chinese investment in its auto industry

The head of the Portuguese trade and investment promotion agency, AICEP Portugal Global, has said his country wishes to attract Chinese investment in its automotive industry, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes AICEP Portugal Global President Luís Castro Henriques as saying so on the sidelines of a promotional event at the Portuguese Embassy in Beijing, which attracted representatives of Chinese banks and manufacturers, including the motor vehicle makers JAC Motors and Beiqi Foton Motor Co. Ltd.

Mr Henriques said Portugal could serve as a hub for Sino-Portuguese partnerships seeking to exploit markets for motor vehicles in the Portuguese-speaking world.

“Portugal is an extremely competitive base for those that want access to Africa and, in particular, the Portuguese-speaking Countries, owing to the relationships we have and access to markets where local knowledge is essential,” Lusa quotes Mr Henriques as saying.
