Chinese consumer price inflation 1.4 pct in July

The annual rate of consumer price inflation in China slowed to 1.4 percent last month from 1.5 percent the month before, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency quotes a senior statistician of the National Bureau of Statistics, Sheng Guoqing, as saying prices of food – the most important of the goods and services in the basket monitored by the bureau – fell last month, curbing consumer price inflation in general.

The producer price index published by the bureau rose by 5.5 percent last month, having been rising since last September, Xinhua says.
