The World Bank forecasts that the economy of Mozambique will grow by 4.6 percent this year, driven by exports of coal, aluminium and gas and by greater farm output.
The news agency quotes a World Bank report on Mozambique as saying: “Strengthening prices for coal, aluminium and gas, a post-El Niño recovery in agriculture and progress in the peace talks could steer growth to 4.6 percent in 2017 and towards 7 percent by the end of the decade.”
The Mozambique National Institute of Statistics has said gross domestic product was 1.8 percent bigger in the first quarter of this year than a year earlier, having expanded by 3.3 percent last year.
Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said in May that the economy could grow by 5.5 percent this year.
