Angola in talks with Hong Kong fund to develop mine and steel mill in Cuanza Norte

The Angolan government and the Hong Kong-based China International Fund Limited are in talks to develop an iron ore mine and steel mill, the Lusa news agency reports.

The report says the mine in Angola’s Cuanza Norte Province could produce 276 tonnes a year. The mill could be based in Dondo, an industrial city west of Luanda and in the southern part of Cuanza Norte.

In an interview with Radio National of Angola, Cuanza Norte’s Director of Industry, Geology and Mines, Emanuel de Sousa, said feasibility studies were being prepared.

If the project got underway, it would generate jobs and contribute to the region’s development.
