Brazil’s unemployment rate fell by more than expected in the second quarter, the Brazilian statistics agency IBGE announced on Friday.
The jobless rate declined to 13 percent in the April-June period, from a record high of 13.7 percent in the first quarter, the agency said. The Reuters news agency reported that the consensus view was for the unemployment rate to fall to 13.3 percent.
Brazil had 13.5 million people out of work in the second quarter, down from 14.2 million people previously. Fewer than 70,000 registered jobs were created in the first half of this year, while real wages were up by 3 percent over the same time last year to an average of 2,104 reais (US$671.65) a month, the report added.
