Better-than-expected growth in China has had a positive impact on the Brazilian economy, says José Luiz Oreiro, an economics professor at the University of Brasilia.
The Government-run news agency Xinhua reported his comments earlier this week.
“China’s accelerating growth is important in providing a greater impetus to the global economic growth,” he said. “[China’s] growth has been good news for the Brazilian economy.”
China’s growth has helped sustain the prices of Brazil’s commodities and helped offset slowdowns in other sectors of Latin America’s biggest economy.
Chinese economy grew at 6.9 percent in the first half of this year, a rate higher than the official target growth of about 6.5 percent for this year.
