Academic urges effort to draw Chinese tourists to Cabo Verde

A prominent academic has said Cabo Verde needs to do more to tap the biggest source of tourists in the world, China, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Cabo Verde School of Hospitality and Tourism Executive Director Fernando Cruz as saying in Macao that China and Cabo Verde have been partners for decades, and that Cabo Verde is a country with an open economy where all investors are welcome.

Mr Cruz said Chinese had invested in several of the islands that make up Cabo Verde, putting money, for instance, into the new University of Cabo Verde campus in the island of Santiago and into developing maritime special economic zone on the island of São Vicente.

Cabo Verde students studying in Macao and Mainland China will turn out to be useful in the development of their country, Lusa quotes Mr Cruz as saying.
