China will partner with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation to improve African rice production, including in Cape Verde, the state-run news agency Xinhua reports.
“Under the Rice Initiative, China is supporting Madagascar in terms of rice production and they are going to support Cape Verde also in rice production,” Peter Anaadumba, a programme officer at the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, was quoted as saying.
China has previously donated rice, introduced new techniques and high-yielding crops to African farmers. Beijing recently announced it would donate 4,000 tonnes of rice to drought-hit Namibia.
