AICEP chief says Portugal widening range of exports to China

The head of the Portuguese trade and investment promotion agency, AICEP, has said the variety of goods Portugal exports to China has widened in the past two years to include food, beer, clothes and shoes, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency quotes AICEP President Luís Castro Henriques as saying in an interview that the value of Sino-Portuguese trade reached €5.24 billion (about US$5.86 billion) last year, Portuguese exports to China having grown considerably in the past 20 years.

Mr Henriques said demand among Chinese consumers for uncommon products of high quality is increasing, offering Portuguese companies a great opportunity.

The report says China has invested over €9 billion in electricity and other forms of energy, finance, insurance, health and other fields in Portugal.

“The Portuguese economy is now very competitive and I believe this will attract more investment from China,” Xinhua quotes Mr Henriques as saying.
