Angola, China among top non-EU destinations for Portuguese exports

Angola and China were among the three main destinations for Portuguese exports outside the European Union (EU) in 2014, Portuguese news agency Lusa reported this week.

The value of Portuguese exports to Angola increased 66.7 percent in 2014 compared to 2010, to 3.2 billion euros (US$3.5 billion), Lusa said, quoting official data from Statistics Portugal. The African nation remained the main non-EU destination of sales from Portugal, as it did in 2010, the report added.

Portugal’s exports to China reached 838.8 million euros in 2014. The Asian market last year ranked third in the list of Portugal’s main destinations for exports outside the EU. In 2010, China was 10th on that list, according to the Portuguese statistics bureau.

The United States remained in 2014 the second main non-EU destination of Portuguese exports, as it did in 2010. Portuguese sales to the U.S. market hit 2.1 billion euros last year, up 59.6 percent than in 2010.

According to the Portuguese news agency, Portuguese exports to countries outside the EU totalled 14 billion euros in 2014, up 52.4 percent from 2010.
