Angolan Minister of Geology and Mining visits China

Angola’s Minister of Geology and Mining, Francisco Queiroz, has started an official seven-day visit to China, Angolan newspaper Jornal de Angola reported.

Mr Queiroz’s visit follows an invitation from his Chinese counterpart. During his stay, the Angolan Minister is expected to meet China’s Minister of Land and Resources, Jiang Daming.

A memorandum of understanding will also be signed between Angola’s Geological Institute and the equivalent organisation in China.

Mr Queiroz will also attend a ceremony marking the completion of a geology-related training course for approximately 30 Angolan students. The course aims to train Angolan nationals capable of working on Angola’s National Geology Plan, known as Planageo. The Plan seeks to create the first comprehensive list of the African nation’s geological and mineral resources.

During his stay in China, Mr Queiroz is also expected to visit the headquarters of CITIC, a Chinese state-run investment company overseeing the construction of a laboratory in Luanda, Angola’s capital. The facility will serve the Planageo project.
