Beijing contributes stationery to boost Angola’s literacy efforts

The Mainland has donated US$30,000 of stationery to promote literacy efforts in Angola, the Jornal de Angola reports.

The newspaper says more than 100,000 pens, pictures, pencils, erasers and notebooks were donated this year, the fourth year the Mainland has made such a donation.

“Education is a noble cause and a cornerstone for sustaining and developing a country,” China’s Ambassador Cui Aimin told the newspaper.

The literacy rate in Angola has grown from 15 percent in 1975 to 73 percent in 2014, the report said. Mr Cui said the Mainland was willing to share its experiences to promote literacy in Angola.
