Beijing keen to expand co-operation with Portugal, says Ambassador Cai

Production capacity, the maritime sector, innovation, Traditional Chinese Medicine, tourism and education are some of the industries Mainland organisations are eager to invest in, according to China’s Ambassador to Portugal.

Ambassador Cai Run was quoted as saying Portugal was “more open” to foreign investment compared to other European countries which had attracted Chinese investments in energy, health, insurance and banking, according to a statement issued by the Macao Government.

Mr Cai met Macao’s Secretary for Economy and Finance Leong Vai Tac in Portugal this week, where Mr Cai stressed the importance of Macao’s role in Sino-Portuguese relations.

Mr Cai said direct flights starting between Portugal and the Mainland next year would strengthen bilateral ties.
