Beijing to help boost food production, build broadcast technology in East Timor

Mainland China and East Timor have signed two agreements to work together in providing assistance to broadcast digital television in East Timor, and the see the construction of a warehouse and food factory, China Radio International reports.

Ambassador to East Timor Liu Hongyang and East Timor’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Hernâni Coelho took part in the signing ceremony yesterday in Brunei.

Mr Liu was quoted as saying the project could help farmers increase their production capacity and sales, while digital broadcasting would allow East Timorese to better understand Chinese culture.

Mr Coelho thanked China for the assistance provided. He was quoted as saying the new warehouse would improve food safety in the country, while digital television would help promote education and trade.
