The biggest solar power farm in South America, the Nova Olinda Solar Park in the northeastern Brazilian state of Piauí, has begun producing electricity, O Globo reports.
The Brazilian newspaper says Enel of Italy runs the farm and Brazilian regional development bank Banco do Nordeste financed it.
The report says the farm has 930,000 solar panels, all imported from China.
O Globo quotes an executive of Enel, Antonio Cammisecra, as saying the Chinese supplier won the contract because its solar panels were cheaper and because Brazilian suppliers were unable to meet the demand.
